RB Leipzig was founded on May 19th, 2009. A decade, and four promotions later, the club reached their first DFB Cup final, always ends the season in the Bundesliga's top six, and is now a regular fixture in European competitions.
Leipzig was designed to be another of the Red Bulls representatives in modern sports and, as well as the other teams owned by the brand, showed a very unorthodox approach to the way a football club is usually managed. The result is clear and is one of the most successful of its kind, as their market value went from 0 zero to sixty-four million € in a decade, making the most of the players and sticking to the strategy in a remarkable way.
As expected from every investment, in the beginning, the club spent the first five or six years without any profit at of the season as the need to build a competitive team forced them to make more transfers and to buy players in order to be competitive at the highest level. Things drastically changed in 2017/2018 as some of the players started to develop and end up being sold for a huge amount of money.
In terms of nationalities, RB Leipzig is quite balanced showing an unusual international roster on a league played by a great majority of german-born players.
It's safe to say that the average player is paid around one and two million € per year and that's pretty impressive considering other teams in the Bundesliga however that's one the benefits of being a Red Bull team, money just don't seem to be a problem...
The evolution of the club is undeniable and unstoppable since every year the stakes and objectives seem to be set higher and the perfect display is the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League Semi-Final, and we're talking of a team with only four years of a first division experience.
Overall it's safe to say that, like it or not, RB Leipzig has been evolving ever since the day it was founded. The financial background provided by Red Bull was a great precursor for the exponential rise of the club in both market value and performance allowing the right decisions to be made without second thoughts and it ultimately led to the mindblowing, fast-pacing team we're already used to see.
Is this the way to manage a Football Club?
